PE & Sport Premium Funding

In March 2013, the government announced the introduction of additional funding for primary schools – the Primary PE and Sport Premium. This funding is specifically for primary schools to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport.

The Purpose of the Funding

The funding must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport offered at the school. This may include developing or adding to the PE and sport activities offered. Additionally, the funding can be used to build capacity and capability within the school’s PE and sport provision, to ensure that the improvements made continue to benefit pupils at the school in future years. Where possible, we will continue to expand the provision of sporting opportunities both within the curriculum and outside the school day. This will include increasing the range of clubs and competitions available to all pupils across the school, and to further develop their level of participation and skill development in relation to physical education and sport. This includes further direct teaching for pupils who are not meeting age-related expectations in swimming. Over the last few years, we have successfully extended sporting opportunities for the children, engaging with local sports clubs. The pupils have been able to experience some different sports, such as archery and orienteering. After submitting the Sportsmark portfolio, we were delighted to be awarded the Gold Award. We are further improving access to sporting activities on site by using local providers and staff to run clubs, and also to access physical activities and sports provision off site; for example, participating in the Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Schools Festival and attending the Queen Katherine School Hockey Festival.
